Andrew Thornton, MD, is a board-certified family medicine physician specializing in urgent care with Wellstar Health System. Dr. Thornton brings a well-rounded, forward-thinking approach to patient care, with strong interests in pediatric care, sports medicine, infectious diseases, and medical technology.

Throughout his tenure at Wellstar, Dr. Thornton has demonstrated a strong commitment to leadership and innovation. He previously served on the Urgent Care Cabinet, helping to drive improvements in safety, quality, and patient experience. He also contributed to the advisory council for Wellstar’s electronic medical records system and championed the adoption of DAX, an AI-powered documentation tool that enhances clinical efficiency and accuracy.

Dr. Thornton earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia and completed his family medicine residency at Wake Forest University. Before joining Wellstar, he practiced primary care with Novant Health in North Carolina.

He lives in Kennesaw, GA, with his wife, Claire, a practicing dentist, and their two children.

Dr. Donchev received his medical degree from the Medical University of Varna, Bulgaria. He graduated from Indiana University's family practice residency in 2006 and joined a private family practice in Indianapolis the same year. He has been board certified in family medicine since 2006.
