Lab Testing at Wellstar

Experienced lab professionals help your care team make diagnoses and decisions about your care. We work behind the scenes to perform blood testing, urinalysis and evaluate body tissues and how they function. We diagnose many medical issues, including:

• Blood disorders
• Cancer
• Diabetes
• Immune disorders, such as HIV, lupus, multiple sclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis
• Infections
• Kidney and bladder disease

To help diagnose diseases and perform medical services, we offer a wide range of diagnostic tests and procedures.

• Bacteria testing (microbiology): To test bacteria in body samples to understand what’s causing infections and which antibiotics can treat them best
• Biopsy and tissue analysis (anatomic pathology): To examine samples of body tissues and cells to find out what disease is present
• Cell examination (cytology): To look at cells in body tissues and fluids to check for cancer, fetal problems, infections and other issues
• Chemistry tests: To monitor diabetes, check kidney and liver function, nutrition and many other body functions
• Coagulation tests: To diagnose and treat bleeding disorders
• Complete blood test: To measure the amount of hemoglobin and the total number of red cells, white cells and platelets
• Hemoglobin A1C: To measure average blood glucose levels
• Immune system testing (immunology): To identify immune disorders and see if we can use organs and tissues for transplants
• TSH and T4: To determine levels of thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) and thyroxine (T4) in the blood
• Urinalysis: To study urine samples to detect diabetes, certain blood disorders, infections and diseases of the liver, kidney and bladder

How to get your test results We process lab samples, analyze them and report results to the ordering clinicial. Generally, results are available within 24 hours. For cultures and more specialized tests, it may take longer. Results will be shared in your Wellstar MyChart account.
