Wellstar Neurology

Dr. Li Liu received his medical degree from Tianjin Medical University and his Ph.D. in Neuroscience from The University of Eastern Finland.

He completed his neurology residency and clinical neurophysiology fellowship at The State University of New York, Downstate Medical Center, New York. He is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in Neurology. He is a member of the American Academy of Neurology.

Dr. Liu is currently in practice with WellStar Neurology and Headache Center.

Prior to his neurology residency, Dr. Liu worked as a research fellow at The Taub Institute for Research on Alzheimer's Disease and the Aging Brain, Columbia University Medical Center, New York. His research on the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease and related neurodegenerative diseases led to a total of 21 research publications, including articles published in highly prestigious journals, such as Nature Neuroscience, and Nature Communication. In 2009, Dr. Liu received New Investigator Award from The Alzheimer’s Association

Ammar Kheder, MD, MRCP is a neurologist and epileptologist with extensive training and leadership experience in the United Kingdom and the United States. He earned his medical degree from Damascus University in Syria before completing neurology training in the U.K. and advanced epilepsy and neurophysiology fellowships at Massachusetts General Hospital–Harvard Medical School and the Cleveland Clinic.

Dr. Kheder specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy across all ages, with expertise in epilepsy surgery evaluation, stereoelectroencephalography (SEEG), neuromodulation, and advanced EEG interpretation. He is committed to providing comprehensive, compassionate care while incorporating the latest advances in neuroscience to improve outcomes for patients and families.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Kheder has been actively involved in leadership, research, and education within national and international epilepsy networks and professional societies. His interests include epilepsy surgery, SEEG, brain mapping, cognitive neuroscience, and the development of new tools to better understand seizure pathways and improve treatment. He is passionate about advancing the field of epilepsy through research and innovation, while fostering the next generation of physicians through mentorship and education.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Kheder enjoys music, art, sports and spending time with his family.

Dr. Kheder welcomes new patients and accepts most insurance plans.

Dr. Jenny Joseph is a neuroimmunologist located in Marietta, GA. She completed her undergraduate degree in neuroscience and behavioral biology at Emory University. She went to Mercer University School of Medicine and matched into Emory University for her neurology residency. She completed additional fellowship training in Multiple Sclerosis and Neuroimmunology at the University of Virginia. Dr. Joseph joined Wellstar in 2021 and founded the Neuroimmunology division. Under her leadership, the division has achieved the highest national accreditation from the National MS Society in 2026. She specializes in multiple sclerosis, encephalitis, sarcoidosis and other rare neuro-immunological disorders.

Dr. Joseph is also the neurology clerkship co-director for the Medical College of Georgia where she helps to train the next generation of physicians. She received the Community Faculty of the Year award in 2025 in recognition for her efforts toward medical education.

Dr. Joseph strongly believes in patient education and aims to provide world-class care. She enjoys building relationships, empowering and partnering with her patients on their health journey.

Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends.

Dr. Thomas Holmes received his medical degree from the Duke University School of Medicine and completed his neurology residency at Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s hospitals through Harvard University. He also completed his fellowship at Emory University Hospital in Neurophysiology with an emphasis in Epilepsy.

Dr. Holmes is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in both Neurology and Clinical Neurophysiology. He serves as the Director of Neurodiagnostics for Wellstar Health System, and he oversaw Wellstar Kennestone Regional Medical Center's accreditation by the National Association of Epilepsy Centers as a level three epilepsy center. He has been recognized by Atlanta Magazine as a Top Doctor in Atlanta for the past several years. He is currently seeing patients as part of Wellstar Marietta Neurology and Headache Center.
