For Strokes: BE FAST and Call 911Always treat a stroke as though it has the potential to be life-threatening. Be prepared and remember the American Stroke Association’s B.E. F.A.S.T acronym. To assess the sign and symptoms of a stroke:
- Balance: Is the person dizzy or having trouble keeping their balance?
- Eyes: Is the person experiencing blurred vision or vision loss?
- Face: Is one side of the person’s face drooping? Are they able to smile?
- Arms: Are one or both arms weak? Are they drifting downward? Is the person able to raise both of their arms?
- Speech: Is the person’s speech strange or slurred? Can they repeat simple phrases?
- Time: Track the time the symptoms began and call 911.
