Advanced technology & techniques
At Kennestone, we deliver a wide variety of treatment options by five different types of machines including HDR, CyberKnife, TrueBeam, Elekta linear accelerator and TomoTherapy. Wellstar Kennestone Hospital is the only site in Georgia offering CyberKnife and TomoTherapy and newly added TrueBeam with SRS capabilities. CyberKnife is a state-of-the-art robotic radiosurgery system that uses high-tech computer software, a robotic arm and a miniature linear accelerator to deliver large doses of radiation in a pencil-thin beam. TrueBeam delivers very high precision dosages with flexible treatment options including the capability to change the size and shape of beams to mimic the tumor shape and minimize exposure to surrounding healthy tissue. We also offer High Dose Radiation Brachytherapy treatment to patients who have cancer in a single location. Select radiation oncologists on our team perform intraoperative radiation therapy (IORT) together with a surgeon. A surgeon removes the tumor and a radiation oncologist directly applies radiation while the patient is asleep in the operating room.
Highest standard of care
Our patients are cared for by medical professionals who have the highest level of training in the field, including board-certified medical physicists, board-certified medical dosimetrists, board-certified radiation therapists and oncology-certified registered nurses. This means the people we treat can expect the highest standard of care. Additionally, our team is highly experienced, treating patients every day in our high-volume center. Patients with cancer can have better outcomes when they are treated by radiation oncologists with a depth of experience.

People with hard-to-reach tumors have a new treatment option at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital thanks to a new TrueBeam machine that was added in August of 2020. The advanced linear accelerator and radiosurgery treatment system allow our radiation oncologists to treat tumors in locations that are more difficult to target. The machine uses leading-edge imaging technology to capture images of a patient’s tumor, even as it moves in response to natural breathing patterns. Our team plans to launch radiosurgery on this machine later in 2021.
