About Us
At Wellstar Breast Surgery, we diagnose, manage and perform surgery to treat benign and malignant breast disease. Our patients have access to the highest standard of breast cancer diagnosis and care with experienced and fellowship-trained breast surgeons. Breast surgeons work as part of a greater multidisciplinary team including radiation oncologists, medical oncologists, genetic counselors and more. We believe in doing what’s best for every patient, every time.
Diagnosis & hereditary breast cancer risk assessment
We diagnose and manage benign and malignant breast disease. Our specialists are here to help people get answers when they have breast masses, nipple discharge, breast pain, male gynecomastia, abnormal breast imaging and a family history of breast cancer. We offer genetic risk assessment to help patients determine if they are at high risk due to genetic mutations. Patients who are at high risk work with our team to manage their breast health over time.
In-office procedures
Patients find it convenient that some of their breast procedures can be performed in-office, including ultrasounds, ultrasound-guided biopsies and aspirations and localization marker placement for surgical biopsies and radiation.
Breast surgery & IORT
Our patients can have breast surgery including mastectomy and lumpectomy performed by a breast surgeon with a Hidden Scar Certification. For patients who are candidates for breast conservation, we can offer a specialized procedure called intraoperative radiation for breast cancer treatment (IORT). With IORT, a breast surgeon collaborates with a radiation oncologist during the procedure. After our breast surgeon removes the tumor, a radiation oncologist directly applies radiation while the patient is asleep in the operating room.

In 2017, Dr. Laura Pearson of Wellstar Breast Surgery earned a Hidden Scar Certification, an advanced technique that allows her to remove a patient’s cancer while preserving the natural shape of the breast, leaving no visible scars. Breast surgery scars can significantly impact a woman’s psychological and emotional recovery and quality of life after surgery because scars can have a large impact on a woman’s self-confidence, intimacy and body image.

WellStar North Fulton Hospital’s STAT (Specialty Teams and Treatment) Clinic opened in 2016 to help patients see the different specialists needed – all in one day, in one location. Working together, this team of specialists can quickly determine the best course of treatment.
