Any child or teen who participates in team sports can see a sports medicine doctor for annual pre-participation exams and cardiovascular health testing.

When a student-athlete is injured, pediatric sports medicine physicians can examine, diagnose and treat musculoskeletal conditions, including sprains, dislocations, and overuse injuries, as well as concussions and heat exhaustion. CT scans or ultrasounds are often required to diagnose these types of injuries. Treatments range from pain relief medicine like cortisone shots to rehabilitative therapies and orthopedic surgery such as ACL reconstruction.
