Lab Services
Lab professionals help your provider make diagnoses and decisions about your care. We work behind the scenes to perform blood testing and urinalysis and evaluate body tissues and how they function. We diagnose many medical issues, including:- Blood disorders

- Immune disorders, such as HIV, lupus, multiple sclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis

Diagnostic tests & procedures
To help diagnose diseases and perform medical services, we offer a wide range of diagnostic tests and procedures.- Bacteria testing (microbiology): To test bacteria in body samples to understand what’s causing infections and which antibiotics can treat them best
- Biopsy and tissue analysis (anatomic pathology): To examine samples of body tissues and cells to find out what disease is present
- Cell examination (cytology): To look at cells in body tissues and fluids to check for cancer, fetal problems, infections and other issues
- Chemistry tests: To monitor diabetes, check kidney and liver function, nutrition and many other body functions
- Coagulation tests: To diagnose and treat bleeding disorders
- Complete blood test: To measure the amount of hemoglobin and the total number of red cells, white cells and platelets
- Hemoglobin A1C: To measure average blood glucose levels
- Immune system testing (immunology): To identify immune disorders and see if we can use organs and tissues for transplants
- TSH and T4: To determine levels of thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) and thyroxine (T4) in the blood
- Urinalysis: To study urine samples to detect diabetes, certain blood disorders, infections and diseases of the liver, kidney and bladder;

We compare every test result with results from hundreds of labs in nationwide proficiency testing programs. This is how we ensure accurate test results. Our laboratory is accredited by the College of American Pathologists. We are regulated by the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments and licensed by the state of Georgia.How to get your test results
We process lab samples, analyze them and report results to the ordering provider. Generally, results are available within 24 hours. For cultures and more specialized tests, it may take longer. To get your results, please log in to your patient portal.Mammography

As the area’s most experienced Breast Health Center, we offer the highest quality care and medical services. We have been accredited as a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology. Our advanced imaging methods lead to earlier diagnoses, fewer false positive test results and fewer repeat breast examinations.We are also an Accredited Breast Center by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers, which is administered by the American College of Surgeons.

3D technology
The Breast Center at Wellstar MCG Health Medical Center was the first in the area to use 3D mammography. This advanced technology uses X-rays to take pictures inside the breast from many angles. We use 3D mammography for every patient because it provides the best, most accurate imaging.Breast cancer diagnosis
If you are diagnosed with breast cancer, we offer coordinated, multidisciplinary breast cancer care, including:- A breast health navigator (an oncology-certified nurse to coordinate your breast cancer care, education and support services)
- Genetic counseling and testing for breast and ovarian cancer
- Quick referrals to our skilled oncology surgeons
We work with you and your family and discuss all of your care options. We create personalized treatment plans to fight your specific cancer.
