Wellstar Minimally Invasive Gynecological Surgery

We are pleased to welcome Christa Joiner, MSN, WHNP-BC, MSCP to the Wellstar Minimally Invasive Gynecological Surgery team, where she will begin seeing patients with Dr. Nathan Mordel.

Christa Joiner is a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner and a Menopause Society Certified Practitioner, bringing a deep commitment to comprehensive, patient-centered women’s healthcare across the lifespan.

She earned her Master of Science in Nursing from Duke University in 2022, along with an Endocrinology Specialty Certificate that same year. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Liberty University in 2007. Christa is board certified as a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner and holds advanced training in endocrine-related women’s health conditions.

Christa’s clinical interests include the co-management of endocrine conditions such as PCOS and gestational diabetes, menopause care, infertility, contraception, pre-pregnancy counseling, family planning, and preventive women’s health. She also performs in-office procedures including IUD and Nexplanon insertion and removal, and endometrial biopsies.

She began her nursing career as a Labor and Delivery nurse at Gwinnett Medical Center, where she supported women through some of life’s most meaningful moments. After taking time away from bedside care to raise her own children, Christa returned to women’s health, working on the high-risk pregnancy unit at Northside Gwinnett. During graduate school, she also served as a phone triage nurse for Maternal Generations, further strengthening her clinical judgment and patient communication skills.

Christa is a member of AWOHNN, NPWH, and the Sigma Beta Tau Honor Society. She is passionate about empowering women with education, compassionate care, and evidence-based treatment, and she is excited to join the team at Wellstar Minimally Invasive Gynecological Surgery.

 

Dr. Mordel received his medical training at Hadassah Hebrew University in Jerusalem, Israel, graduating with a degree in Obstetrics and Gynecology. After coming to the United States, he completed a residency in Gynecology and Obstetrics and a fellowship in advanced pelvic surgery at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta.

 

He is board-certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He is an active fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology and a member of the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists.

 

Dr. Mordel specializes in advanced robotic, laparoscopic, vaginal pelvic surgery, including for fibroids, endometriosis, heavy and/or painful menstrual periods, pelvic organ prolapse, and urinary incontinence.

 

Dr. Mordel has performed thousands of robotic and laparoscopic cases - over 5000 hysterectomies and myomectomies for uteri up to 4,500 grams (10 pounds). He has performed over 500 sacrocolpopexies and over 2000 excisions of endometriosis. His conversion rate is less than 0.1%. Certain complex cases require multispecialty participation - Dr. Mordel collaborates with robotically trained colorectal and urological surgeons.
