Dr. D’Amato is a Neuroendovascular Surgeon who specializes in the treatment of blood vessel disorders of the brain and spine. Utilizing both medical and minimally invasive techniques, he provides care for patients suffering from cerebral aneurysms, arteriovenous fistula and malformations, brain bleeding, carotid stenosis, stroke and many other conditions. He has particular expertise in treating disorders involving the veins of the brain, such as idiopathic intracranial hypertension (or pseudotumor cerebri), which can manifest itself as papilledema (swelling of the optic nerve for the eyes), pulsatile tinnitus and headaches.
Dr. D’Amato graduated from Weill Cornell Medical College, where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society for his academic excellence, leadership and compassionate and empathic medical care. He went on to complete a Neurology residency at Harvard University/Massachusetts General Hospital/Brigham and Women’s Hospital, where he was elected Chief Resident. Following residency, Dr. D’Amato completed fellowships in Neurocritical Care and Neuroendovascular Surgery, both at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, one of the busiest cerebrovascular centers in the country, allowing him to uniquely care for patients across the entire spectrum of cerebrovascular disorders. Throughout his medical training, he has engaged in clinical research within his field, published in high impact medical journals and lectured at national meetings. He joined Wellstar where he will continue to contribute to the advancement of the field by participation in various clinical trials. Above all else, Dr. D’Amato applies a holistic, compassionate approach in patient care, recognizing the individual needs of patients and their family. His primary practice is at North Fulton Medical Center, where he also serves as the medical director of the Comprehensive Stroke Program.
