About Jose Vazquez, MD

Dr. Vazquez is chief of the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program at Wellstar, affiliated with Medical College of Georgia, and chair of the Institutional Review Board at Augusta University. Prior to this he was professor at Wayne State University School of Medicine and senior staff physician at Henry Ford Hospital and Health System, both in Detroit. Dr. Vazquez earned his medical degree from Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra in Santiago, Dominican Republic. He completed his internship and internal medicine residency at Chicago Medical School in North Chicago. Thereafter, he completed an infectious diseases fellowship at Wayne State University School of Medicine and is board certified in internal medicine and infectious diseases. Dr. Vazquez is a member of several professional societies and is a co-principal investigator on a National Institutes of Health grant evaluating the oral microbiome of HIV-positive subjects. He has extensively written about various infectious disease topics, especially mycology.

During each visit I found the staff to be efficient, and friendly. After each visit with Dr. Vazquez I could understand the origin of the staff's attitude. I found Dr. Vazquez to be efficient, friendly and thorough in explaining his concern for the healing of my injured finger following surgery that was done to remove any diseases, that may have been picked up from the asphalt for lab testing. He explained that mold was one of his major concerns.
