About Jose Rodriguez-Torres, MD
Born and raised in Puerto Rico, Dr. Rodriguez completed his
bachelor's degree in science at the University of Puerto Rico, Rio
Piedras Campus, and a medical degree from San Juan Bautista School of
Medicine in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Dr. Rodriguez came to Georgia in
1981 to do a residency in pediatrics at the Medical College of
Georgia in Augusta. Since 1981, he has been practicing in Cobb
County. In 1998, he completed a master's degree in business
administration from Kennesaw State University. He is board certified
in pediatrics.
Since 2000, he has taught third and fourth year medical students as clinical professor at the Medical College of Georgia, and from 2005 he also has taught third year medical students as adjunct associate clinical professor at Morehouse School of Medicine.
For six years, Dr. Rodriguez served as a district #2 representative (Cobb and Douglas counties) to the Georgia Chapter American Academy of Pediatrics. He is former chairman of pediatrics at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital and former chairman of the Wellstar Kennestone Regional Hospital Board. Appointed by the Speaker of the House in 2006, he continues to serve as a member of the advisory board in the Georgia Office of Child Advocate. Also at the state level, Dr. Rodriguez is on the Board of the Pediatric Healthcare Improvement Coalition (501(c)(4) non-profit corporation) representing Atlanta area pediatricians since inception in 2010. Since 2007, he has served as chairman of the Board of Ser Familia (501 (c) (3) non-profit corporation).
Dr. Rodriguez has received many awards and recognitions through the years for quality and safety improvement in pediatrics by Wellstar Health System. In 2004, he was a finalist in the physician category of the Atlanta Business Chronicle’s Health Care Hero Award. Most recently in 2013, the Georgia Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics honored him with the Outstanding Achievement Award, and Mundo Hispanico Newspaper with the Worker of the year Award.
Dr. Rodriguez is married and has two daughters, both pediatricians. In his free time, Dr. Rodriguez enjoys traveling with his wife of 36 years, a good game of chess and playing classical guitar.
