I would hope that the task of receiving and making phone calls would be a lower priority than checking in customers for scheduled appointments. You may wish to remind the office staff of the courtesy to at least acknowledge a new customer, even if on the phone. Once the phone call is complete make an effort to receive the new customer before continuing on with other calls.
