Dr. Byrd attended the University of South Carolina for his undergraduate education, graduating with honors from the Honors College and as a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He then attended the Medical University of South Carolina, where he was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha and received the Henry Tracy Ivy Award. He completed his residency training in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery at MUSC before pursuing a two-year fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh in head and neck oncology and skull base surgery. During this time he also completed the University of Pittsburgh's Certificate in Clinical Research program with a focus in cost-effectiveness analysis.

My appointment was at 245. I wasn't seen until 430. A student nurse sprayed numbing medication in my nose for nothing. The doctor didn't even look at my nose. I didn't leave until almost 5 and I felt like he rushed me through so they could close.
