Dr. Patel received his bachelor’s degree from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, N.J. and his medical degree from Ross University School of Medicine in Portsmouth, Commonwealth of Dominica. He completed his interventional pulmonology fellowship at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock, Ark. and his pulmonary/critical care medicine fellowship and residency at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of NJ in Newark, N.J.
Board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, he is a member of the American College of Chest Physicians, the American Association of Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology and the American Thoracic Society. Dr. Patel is in practice with Wellstar Pulmonary Group.

I mean, the recording that y'all uses is prohibitive if I need to just speak with my provider. I don't like that. I used to be able to call him and leave him a message and I know that I have my chart, but it's just not the same thing. So if you could reinstate the ability for us as patients to talk to a human being, I would just love it. But I have only, only, only good things to say about Dr. Patel. Thank you so much.

Slowed down by an oxygen tank
For Billy, the simplest of movements became Herculean tasks. The man who loved tinkering in his garage found himself slowed down by an oxygen tank and dependent on his wife, Patty, to help him move it from room to room.
“I couldn’t walk 20 feet without the hose on my nose,” Billy said. “I couldn’t go from the living room to the kitchen without oxygen. That’s how bad it was.”
“I’d have to do five minutes’ worth of work—then catch my breath,” he remembered. “It took me a very long time to do anything. A project that would normally take an hour took two days. I had to sit dormant most of the time.”
Billy had managed this condition for years with prescription medication and pulmonary rehabilitation, but in the final months leading to his procedure, he had the impression that his life was fading with every gasp of air.
