Dr. Postma is professor and vice chair in the department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at Augusta University and director of the Center for Voice, Airway and Swallowing. He received his medical degree from Drexel University and completed his residency at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. After working at the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, Va., he took a fellowship at Vanderbilt University and later joined the faculty at Wake Forest University. Dr. Postma's clinical interests span the entire field of laryngology—from voice disorders, dysphagia and professional and singing voice care to airway surgery and reconstruction, extraesophageal and gastroesophageal reflux, and chronic cough. He is a pioneer in the area of in-office surgery including transnasal esophagoscopy and un-sedated laryngeal and airway laser surgery. He is a past president of the American Broncho-Esophagological Association, Dysphagia Research Society and Georgia Society of Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery.

After literally months trying to find a qualified Dr to treat my husband's condition, which was diagnosed by a non-Wellstar physician, since Wellstar do es not seem to have GI doctors, a Texas specialist referred us to Dr Postma so my husband could be treated closer to home. What a relief to finally be in the hands of a Dr who was familiar with this condition and agreed he needed treatment sooner than later. We will let our GI Dr know where to send future patients with this condition in Georgia so they do not have to spend 6 months suffering and wasting time with Emory. And not only that, Dr Postma listened to the hearing issues which began in 2020 when a virus left my husband without hearing in his right ear. He referred him to the audiology Dr in his department and after we got home the next day, they called with an appointment for a hearing test and appointment with the Dr directly afterward, since they knew we would be traveling from the Atlanta area down to Augusta, and wanted to make it as convenient as possible for us. So, yes, we are extremely pleased with the attention they are giving my husband!! Good healthcare can still be found!
