About Deborah Karp, MD
Having completed a 3-year fellowship in Urogynecology at Cleveland Clinic in Florida, Dr. Karp has expertise in caring for women with pelvic floor problems including pelvic organ prolapse, urinary and bowel incontinence, postpartum pelvic issues, menopausal problems, voiding difficulties, defecatory and sexual dysfunction, and vaginal fistula to the surrounding pelvic organs. She has a full set of complementary skills to offer a range of non-surgical and minimally invasive surgical options to patients.
She provides personalized, compassionate, and comprehensive care to patients with an emphasis on patient education and understanding pelvic health as it relates to childbirth and aging. She has a particular interest in childbirth related pelvic floor problems and has previously developed and overseen a Pelvic Health after Pregnancy Program in Atlanta, Georgia. She has been instrumental in developing surgical programs focused on surgical training and education in Gynecologic Robotic surgery.
Dr. Karp graduated from Dartmouth College cum laude and then earned her medical degree at The University of Chicago where she also did her Obstetrics and Gynecology residency training. She then underwent a 3-year fellowship in Female Pelvic Medicine & Reconstructive Surgery/ Urogynecology at Cleveland Clinic in Florida.
She has authored over 25 peer-reviewed publications and has performed basic science and clinical research at several prestigious universities as well as the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. She is also the recipient of multiple awards for teaching and research including Excellence in Teaching Gynecologic Surgery at Emory University, and Best Urogynecologic Surgical Video and the Kurt Semm Award for Excellence in Laparoscopy from the Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists (AAGL), and Best Abstract for Clinical Research in Urogynecology from the International Urogynecology Association (IUGA). She has had a multitude of leadership positions within IUGA focusing on the dissemination of awareness and education in pelvic floor problems in women internationally. She has received numerous patient satisfaction awards from Press-Ganey and American Registry, Vitals.
Dr. Karp has a passion for travel and service. She has traveled to Guatemala on an annual basis to provide gynecologic surgical care to women in need, and has provided gynecologic teaching, medical, and surgical care to women all over Africa including in Ghana, Ethiopia, Tanzania, and Mozambique.

Dr Karp was very kind and informative. Front desk and support staff were great. My only complaint would be the wait time to get called back to the exam room which was an hour and forty five minutes.

My main complaint is the amount of time you have to wait for your appointment. They are always running 1.5 to 2 hours behind on appointments. This is not good for elderly patients. I understand emergencies happen, but this has happened each time we have visited. Something needs to change.

The doctor was very nice and apologetic of the wait time. Even with the wait, she didn't rush my appointment and explained everything and answered all my questions. I left feeling very cared for during a time that I have some difficult decisions to make.

Excellent! The whole experience from check in, preop, surgery and over night stay. Staff took care of all my needs and professional. The care was top notch. Dr. Karp was wonderful. Everything went well. Today, was my 6 week post-op visit. Dr. Karp was very thorough and gentle with exam. I am extremely satisfied with procedure.

I wanted to take the time to not only recognize Dr Karp for the wonderful doctor that I found her to be, but her staff as well. It is rare that you go to a doctor's office and experience what you do at Wellstar Urogynecology. I do not usually do reviews, but I wanted to take the time this evening, to not only compliment Dr Karp, but her team as well. Hats off to an office staff that she can truly be proud of!

My main complaint is the amount of time you have to wait for your appointment. They are always running 1.5 to 2 hours behind on appointments. This is not good for elderly patients. I understand emergencies happen, but this has happened each time we have visited. Something needs to change.

Dr Karp was very kind and informative. Front desk and support staff were great. My only complaint would be the wait time to get called back to the exam room which was an hour and forty five minutes.

Other than the lengthy wait, the appointment went well. Dr. Karp is extremely professional and easy to talk to. She listened to me about my concerns, without rushing me. The office staff was friendly and professional.

The doctor did listen, but did not attempt to explain what had happened to me. She was able to get a drug I need to a pharmacy for me to pick up.
