Journey Through Bereavement

Journey Through Bereavement

Wellstar Health System has partnered with Journey Through Bereavement (JTB) to offer perinatal palliative care to families who receive a life-limiting diagnosis during their pregnancy. Journey Through Bereavement is not-for-profit organization started by our very own patients who saw an opportunity to do more. With their support, Wellstar proudly offers this tailored program to families who choose to participate.

Our goal is for the families in our program to look back on their child's birth with a sense of joy and contentment based in the knowledge that they were able to make the most of the time that they had together.

What We Offer

Each family is partnered with a dedicated Nurse Navigator who will support the development of a birth plan, guidance throughout the preliminary medical decision-making before their baby is born, help plan for their time in the hospital, and assistance with hospice and palliative care arrangements if needed. Additionally, we offer:

  • Support from the time of diagnosis through to the baby's birth, life and death
  • Palliative care planning
  • Caring for the baby and family while in the hospital
  • Emotional support via phone and email
  • Create memories for families to cherish when they return home
  • Participate in WellStar's Annual "Celebration of Life" service
  • Coordinate with community partners to assist families with their service needs
  • Opportunities for giving
  • Referrals

We're Here For You

Many Wellstar hospitals offer clinically trained professional chaplain services for 24/7 emotional, spiritual and religious support. If you are in need of immediate assistance, please call your Hospital Operator and ask for the Chaplain.

Wellstar hosts a Pregnancy and Infant Loss Support Group on the second Tuesday of each month. This group is available to families seeking additional support after the loss of a child to miscarriage, stillbirth or infant death. View additional information.

If you are a family in need of JTB support, please contact your local palliative care nurse or contact Jaime Nelson at
