William E. Humphries, III, MD, MPH, joins the Wellstar Neurosurgery Group after serving as an Assistant Professor in the Division of Neurological Surgery at the University of Missouri School of Medicine.

Dr. Humphries is a Georgia native and attended high school as well as college in the Atlanta area. He obtained his undergraduate degree from Morehouse College with academic and music scholarships and graduated magna cum laude with a B.S. in Biology. He went on to obtain his medical degree from Duke University School of Medicine in 2006. During his medical school matriculation he also obtained an MPH in Epidemiology from The University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Dr. Humphries completed his neurosurgical residency training in the Texas Medical Center at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX . Afterwards, he completed a combined fellowship in cerebrovascular/endovascular neurosurgery at the Semmes-Murphey Neurologic and Spine Institute in Memphis, Tennessee.

  • Surgical and endovascular treatment of intracranial aneurysms

  • Vascular malformations of the brain and spine
  • Moyamoya disease
  • Neurovascular trauma
  • Image-guided techniques for intracranial brain surgery
  • Stereotactic Radiosurgery using Cyberknife
