The doctor had no bedside manner, facial expressions or any kind of empathy whatsoever. He starts by saying, "so you are here for memory issues." My dad didn't know why he was there other than to get the results of an MRI. As most people know (and certainly a neurologist should know) people with memory issues or some form of dementia don't know or are in denial and those engaging with them need to be sensitive to it.He kept pressing my dad saying well that's what the notes said- when I was clearly the one that filled out the notes in advance of the appoinrnt. The doctor at once point forcefully says,"you have dementia and if you don't want to accept it, it's your problem" I told him my dad has anxiety and paranoia- both to which he responded, " I cant help you with that." I had to ask what the results of the MRI were. He didn't offer without the prompting. He then prescribed two meds one of which treats 4 symptoms - none of which my dad has nor did we discuss. He eroded my trust, my dad's trust and now I will have an even harder time getting my dad to go to doctors. It was already difficult enough. I am the only person taking care of him and now it will be harder.
