About Geoffrey Southmayd, MD
Dr. Geoff Southmayd is a native of Austin, TX. He graduated with distinction from Duke University with a bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering, and then attended medical school at the University of Texas - Health Science Center at Houston. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Emory University, where he served as Chief Medical Resident. He then continued with Emory to complete fellowships in Cardiovascular Disease and Interventional Cardiology, where he was chosen to serve as Chief Cardiology Fellow and Chief Interventional Cardiology Fellow. Dr. Southmayd is board certified in Cardiovascular Disease, Echocardiography, and Internal Medicine. He is a member of the American College of Cardiology and the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Intervention. He joined Wellstar Cardiovascular Medicine in September 2020, and is currently on staff at Wellstar Cobb, Douglas, Paulding and Kennestone hospitals. When not practicing medicine, Dr. Southmayd enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter and is an avid Duke basketball fan.

From the moment we opened the door, we were delighted to see smiling, happy people who seemed to be happy that we entered. Good eye contact from everyone (whole body listening) Yes that matters to me. Warm smiles, positive interactions between them, even when not interacting with the patients. The staff, including our intake, nurse Makeya (sorry it may be Nakeya) and the discharge clerk were pretty amazing in a time where customer service has become an absurd expectation, they made our entire morning brighter.
