Derek Backer, MD

Dr. Backer attended the University of Georgia for both his undergraduate and graduate degrees. From there he returned to his hometown of Augusta to obtain his medical degree from Medical College of Georgia. He completed his internship and residency training at Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, S.C. He then practiced as a hospitalist in Asheville, N.C., both in supervising the training of residents and directly caring for adults in western North Carolina, before returning to Augusta.
