The Wellstar Center for Cardiovascular Care offers nationally-recognized comprehensive heart care at more than 20 locations. Our team of heart experts includes board-certified doctors who subspecialize in different areas so patients have access to the care they need, when they need it. A native of New Orleans, Dr. Reitman is a board certified cardiologist who graduated with a bachelor’s degree in English Literature from Washington University in St. Louis in 1991 and then earned a medical degree from Louisiana State University, New Orleans, in 1995. After completing an internship and residency in internal medicine at Tufts Affiliated Hospitals in Boston, MA, Dr. Reitman completed a Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship at Brown University, Providence, R.I. After an Interventional Fellowship at The Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York, completed 2002, Dr Reitman started clinic practice in Marietta , GA.

Instrumental towards bringing interventional cardiology and cardiac surgery to Cobb County, Dr Reitman has been a perennial high volume operator, and has played an integral role in the development of Complex PCI, Cardiogenic Shock and Structural Heart Teams for Wellstar Health Systems. Teaching activities have involved live rotational atherectomy courses and complex interventional courses for interventional physicians from around the country.Starting as a three-physician interventional group at one hospital, Dr Reitman helped grow an interventional program that now touches a broad geography across the Atlanta metropolitan area, represented by over 18 interventional physicians in 9 separate cardiac cath labs. He has served as the system level cardiac catheterization lab director since 2009.

Dr Reitman has been involved in a number of coronary and structural heart trials in collaboration with other Wellstar physicians, including trials involving the Synergy and Onyx platforms, the Edwards Sapien and Evolut valves. Reitman has been involved with the Georgia Chapter of the American College of Cardiology since his arrival in Atlanta in 2002 .

Dr. Lee, who is originally from Boston, is a non-invasive cardiologist with advanced training in congestive heart failure and non-invasive cardiac imaging. He is the medical director of the Wellstar Congestive Heart Failure program. Dr. Lee received his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Mass. He earned his medical degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine, graduating summa cum laude. He completed his internship and residency at Barnes Hospital/ Washington University School of Medicine, in St. Louis, Mo., followed by a Cardiovascular Disease research fellowship at the same institution.

Dr. Lee was the internal medicine chief resident at Barnes Hospital in 1998 and was co-editor of The Washington Manual of Medical Therapeutics. He completed his Cardiovascular Disease clinical fellowship at Barnes Hospital/Washington University in 2000. Dr. Lee is board certified in Cardiovascular Disease and is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology. He is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha honor medical society. Dr. Lee joined Wellstar Medical Group, Cardiovascular Medicine in September 2006. He is currently on staff at Wellstar Cobb, Douglas and Kennestone hospitals.

Dr. Rajnish Prasad is board-certified in Cardiovascular Diseases and Critical Care Medicine. He completed a six-year Bachelor of Science/Doctor of Medicine program at Lehigh University and the Medical College of Pennsylvania (now Drexel University School of Medicine). He completed his medicine internship and residency at the Medical College of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1997. Afterwards, he completed his Cardiovascular Diseases fellowship at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 2000. He then completed a Critical Care Medicine fellowship at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland and the was a research fellow there until 2003. He then was an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Maryland directing the coronary care unit until 2005.

Dr. Prasad joined Wellstar Medical Group, Cardiovascular Medicine, in 2005 and is currently on staff at Wellstar Cobb, Douglas, Paulding and Kennestone Hospitals.

Dr. Prasad’s areas of interest include cardiac critical care and cardiovascular research. He is currently a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC) and Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians (FCCP).

Dr. Elsass is board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular medicine and interventional cardiology.  She completed her undergraduate degree at Albright College in Reading, Penn., and graduated from medical school at MCP Hahnemann School of Medicine in Philadelphia.  She completed an internal medicine residency at Duke University in Durham, N.C., and a Cardiovascular Disease fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio. During fellowship, she developed an great interest in general interventional cardiology and went on to complete an interventional cardiology fellowship at Emory University in Atlanta. 

Prior to joining Wellstar Medical Group, Cardiovascular Medicine in 2009 as an interventional cardiologist, she practiced for two years as an interventional cardiologist in Columbia, S.C., where she implemented a program for percutaneous structural heart disease intervention at Palmetto Health Richland Memorial Hospital.  She also started a program for cardiovascular disease in women. Dr. Elsass is on staff at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital.

Dr. Wachs received his medical degree from Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago, after completing a six-year Bachelor of Science/Doctor of Medicine program. He completed his residency at Long Island Jewish Hospital in New York and completed his cardiology fellowship at the University of Chicago.

Dr. Wachs practiced cardiology in South Bend, Ind., from 1984 until 2004, where he was medical director of cardiology at Memorial Hospital. Since February 2004, he has been with Wellstar Medical Group, Cardiovascular Medicine where he serves as medical director. He is currently on staff at Wellstar Cobb, Douglas and Kennestone hospitals.

Dr. Wachs is a fellow of both the American College of Cardiology and the College of Chest Physicians. He is board certified in cardiovascular diseases and has a particular interest is congestive heart failure.

A native of Puerto Rico, Dr. Ada Mercado received her undergraduate degree from InterAmerican University and attended medical school at Pedro Henríquez Ureña. She completed her internal medicine residency in the Mayagüez Medical Center and her cardiovascular disease fellowship at Ponce School of Medicine & Health Sciences St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital. Dr. Kansal is the Medical Director of Non-Invasive Imaging for Wellstar Health System and a board certified cardiologist with additional board certified training in echocardiography and nuclear cardiology. She received her medical degree from the University of Delhi and completed her internship and residency at Southern Illinois University in 1997. She was on faculty as assistant professor until 2000. Appointments and Cancellations
Please call our office or book online through MyChart to schedule an appointment. Same-day visits are available for urgent health issues. 

You are responsible to notify us of cancellations. We ask that all appointments be canceled 24 hours prior to the appointment. If you are more than 15 minutes late for your appointment, it will need to be rescheduled.

We use an automated appointment reminder system to notify patients two days prior to your appointment. 
 
Insurance and Payments
Wellstar accepts most medical insurance plans. We work hard to create lasting relationships with insurance companies to ensure you can receive the care you need.

Referrals

We do not require a referral to schedule an appointment. However, sometimes insurance plans require a referral for office visits. If that is the case with your insurance plan, a referral must be received prior to your visit.
