The Wellstar Center for Cardiovascular Care offers nationally-recognized comprehensive heart care at more than 20 locations. Our team of heart experts includes board-certified doctors who subspecialize in different areas so patients have access to the care they need, when they need it. We work closely with all heart subspecialists at Wellstar and can connect you with structural heart specialists, cardiovascular surgeons, advanced heart failure specialists and more.

Heart rhythm disorders

Interventional cardiology

Wellstar’s highly-skilled interventional cardiologists use catheter-based techniques to stop and prevent heart attacks, and ultimately, to save lives. Dr. Piedad is a board-certified cardiologist and cardiac electrophysiologist. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from Georgetown University and was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. Dr. Piedad received his medical degree from the University of Rochester and was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society.

He completed his residency in internal medicine at the New York University Medical Center and his fellowship training at the New York University Medical Center for cardiology and cardiac electrophysiology.

Dr. Piedad specializes in cardiac electrophysiology. His interests include complex arrhythmia management, permanent pacemakers, implantable cardioverter defibrillators, cardiac resynchronization devices, electrophysiologic studies, and ablations for cardiac arrhythmias: including ablation for atrial fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia. He is particularly interested in ablation for atrial fibrillation.

He is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology, and is a member of the Heart Rhythm Society and the Cobb County Medical Society.

Dr. Egoavil, a cardiac electrophysiologist, was born and raised in Chicago, Ill. He received two undergraduate degrees in microbiology and biochemistry from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1994. He received a full scholarship to attend medical school at Loyola University Medical Center in 1998. After completing his internship and residency at Loyola University Medical Center, he completed his cardiology training at Rush Presbyterian St. Luke’s Medical Center. He spent two years at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia completing his training in cardiac electrophysiology. Dr. Egoavil received a master’s degree in business administration from Emory University Goizueta Business School in May 2008. 

Dr. Egoavil is board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease and Cardiac Electrophysiology. He is a member of the American College of Cardiology and the Heart Rhythm Society. He joined Wellstar Cardiovascular Medicine in July 2005. He performs all aspects of pacemaker, defibrillator and resynchronization device therapy. His areas of special interests include electrophysiology studies, catheter ablation of cardiac arrhythmias: including atrial fibrillation, pacemakers and defibrillators.

Dr Egoavil is currently performing electrophysiology procedures at Wellstar Cobb and Kennestone hospitals and is on staff at Wellstar Paulding hospital. He speaks Spanish fluently.

Dr. Riley, a cardiac electrophysiologist, received his bachelor’s degree in chemistry and philosophy from the Rockhurst University in 1996, and went on to attend medical school at Georgetown University. After completing his internship and residency at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, he completed his cardiovascular disease training at The Cleveland Clinic Foundation. He then spent two years at Emory University.

Dr. Kanuru attended both college and medical school at the University of Miami and graduated from the six-year combined bachelor's/medical degree program in 1994. During that period, he spent one year at the University of Tuebingen in Germany as a Foreign Studies Scholar. He completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at Emory University. Following a cardiology fellowship at the University of Tennessee, he returned to Atlanta and completed a two-year cardiac electrophysiology fellowship at Emory University in 2002.

Dr. Kanuru is board-certified in cardiovascular disease and clinical cardiac electrophysiology. He is a member of the Heart Rhythm Society. He joined Wellstar in July 2002, and is fully trained in all aspects of invasive electrophysiology, including bi-ventricular pacemakers/ICDs, complex arrhythmia management and ablation, transeptal catheterization, and transvenous lead extraction.

A native of Sheffield, AL, Dr. Kanuru is married with two children and now resides in Marietta. He is an automotive enthusiast, an avid reader and enjoys hiking and running.

Dr. Amar Patel received his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia. He completed his internship and residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and went on to complete a fellowship in cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology at Emory University. Dr. Jennifer Giuseffi received her Bachelor of Arts from Cornell University and medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia. She completed internship and residency in internal medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, an affiliate of Harvard Medical School, and served as chief medical resident during her senior year. Dr. Giuseffi went on to a fellowship in cardiovascular medicine at Vanderbilt University and served as chief cardiology fellow.

Her special interests include women and heart disease, cardiac intensive care, aortic disease, prevention and cardiac imaging.

Dr. Giuseffi is currently on staff at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital with her primary clinical practice at the Wellstar East Cobb Health Park. She is a member of the American College of Cardiology, the American Medical Association and the American Heart Association.

Dr. Giuseffi is married with two children.

Dr. Hardee is an invasive cardiologist with special interests in valvular heart disease and nuclear cardiology. He graduated as valedictorian from Kathleen High School in Lakeland, Fla. In 1988, he received his bachelor’s degree in biological and medical sciences from the University of Florida in 1988. He was granted early entry into medical school via the Junior Honors Accelerated Program at the University of Florida and, in 1992, received his medical degree. Dr. Hardee completed his internal medicine internship and residency at Emory University in 1995. He then completed his cardiology fellowship training at Duke University in 1998.
 
 
Dr. Hardee is board certified in cardiovascular disease and nuclear cardiology. He is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology and a member of the American Heart Association. He served as director of Cardiac Rehabilitation at Winter Park Hospital in Orlando, Fla. and now serves as director of Cardiac Rehabilitation at Wellstar Douglas Hospital. He was also co-chairman of the noninvasive cardiology and critical care committees at Florida Hospital in Orlando.
 
 
Dr. Hardee joined Cardiovascular Medicine in June 2007. He is currently on staff at Wellstar Cobb, Douglas, Kennestone and Paulding hospitals. He is married with a daughter and son.

Appointments and Cancellations
Please call our office or book online through MyChart to schedule an appointment. Same-day visits are available for urgent health issues. 

You are responsible to notify us of cancellations. We ask that all appointments be canceled 24 hours prior to the appointment. If you are more than 15 minutes late for your appointment, it will need to be rescheduled.

We use an automated appointment reminder system to notify patients two days prior to your appointment. 
 
Insurance and Payments
Wellstar accepts most medical insurance plans. We work hard to create lasting relationships with insurance companies to ensure you can receive the care you need.

Please call our office if you need help understanding your insurance coverage and financial responsibility.

Referrals

We do not require a referral to schedule an appointment. However, sometimes insurance plans require a referral for office visits. If that is the case with your insurance plan, a referral must be received prior to your visit.
