Patient-centered care by a team of cancer specialists
Our medical oncologists work as a member of a multidisciplinary team to provide you with the most comprehensive, patient-centered care. The hallmark of the cancer program at Wellstar West Georgia Enoch Callaway Cancer Center is a weekly cancer conference where our medical oncologists come together with other cancer specialists, nurses, pharmacists, social workers and support staff to review and discuss each patients’ unique medical conditions. Our goal is to design the best treatment plan, personalized to fight your specific cancer.
We strive to bring the most recent and advanced treatments to people touched by cancer. At the renovated and expanded Enoch Callaway Cancer Center, we take each person’s individual health conditions and goals into consideration when we design a treatment plan. We have the latest in genetically-based targeted therapies, immunotherapy and chemotherapy to fight various types of cancer. Targeted therapies are drugs that target specific genetic abnormalities in the cancer’s DNA. Through DNA sequencing of a previously biopsied tumor, tissue or blood sample, we can determine whether one of these targeted therapies might be effective. Immunotherapy drugs harness the patient’s own immune system to detect and fight the cancer. And, newer chemotherapies have been developed with fewer side effects and newer cancer support drugs that have improved the chemotherapy experience for patients.
Patients Benefit from Cancer Center Expansion
The Enoch Callaway Cancer Center (ECCC) program at Wellstar West Georgia Medical Center underwent a $24 million renovation and consolidation of all cancer services in one location in the fall of 2020, offering our community a whole new level of services, in a beautiful setting. Made possible by the generous donations of Callaway Foundation and local businesses, residents and team members, our 40,000-square-foot facility features many benefits to patients, including an expansion of our office suite; additional diagnostic technologies and individualized chemotherapy solutions; an in-house pharmacy for chemotherapy preparation; and a boutique filled with wigs and other items for people with cancer. Our patients also benefit from a new resource Center to learn about cancer, which includes a Children’s Corner with age-appropriate information, technologies and special programs to help children deal with a family member’s diagnosis of cancer. Patients and their families also appreciate the new chapel and public meeting space for support groups, community outreach activities and integrated therapies such as therapeutic exercise and guided artistic expression classes.
