Dr. Carolyn Smallwood received her bachelor’s degree from Toccoa Falls College in Toccoa, Ga., and her master’s degree in public health from A.T. Still University in Kirksville, Miss. She obtained her medical degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Suwanee, Ga. Dr. Smallwood completed her residency at Southern Family Medicine in Pueblo, Colo.
Dr. Smallwood is a member of the American Academy of Family Practice and the American Osteopathic Association. She is a diplomat of the American Board of Family Medicine.

She never makes you feel rushed, she answers all of your questions, reviews everything with you in detail and makes you feel like you're her only patient. Dr. Smallwood is kind, compassionate and helpful. I like her, and her clinicians. Phlebotomy was also good. However, I was unable to obtain information about the cost (if applicable) for my ordered lab work despite hours on the phone. After my last physical I had $1k due for labs and I can't afford that again! My insurance card has Wellstar on it... but neither they nor anyone I spoke to directly with Wellstar could give me this information, each party referred me to the other. The billing, insurance process, and lack of price transparency with Wellstar consistently and grossly fails to align with Wellstar's mission and vision. Our community deserves better. It was also stressful and challenging to get my appointment in a timely manner in order to avoid running out of my thyroid medicine.
