Understanding Autoimmune Diseases and Cardiovascular Disease

Do you have an autoimmune disease, such as Rheumatoid Arthritis or Lupus? Research suggests that people with autoimmune conditions have a significantly higher risk of developing cardiovascular disease. Although a higher risk exists, focusing on prevention by making smart lifestyle choices is key. Bladder Matters

If you think urinary incontinence only affects older women, think again. Bladder control issues affect women of all ages. As a matter of fact, about 25 to 45 percent of women suffer from urinary incontinence, defined as leakage, at least once in the past year. Bladder control problems can be embarrassing and can cause you to needlessly cut back on the activities that you enjoy. They may also be a sign of a serious underlying health condition such as kidney disease or diabetes. Join us as we highlight and talk about ways to control your bladder and when to see a specialist.

Good Sleep - A Reachable Dream

Some people believe they need less sleep than the average person. While this may earn you bragging rights, it is not good for your health. Sleep is not just the absence of being awake; it is an active process that promotes good cognitive and physical health. While you are sleeping, your body is doing important work, such as forming pathways in your brain that help you learn and create memories and removing toxins that accumulate while you are awake. Sleep also helps your body support your immune system, repair cells and tissues, and maintain a healthy balance of hormones. Join WellStar to learn how sleep plays a role for our overall health, and how to know if you are getting adequate amounts each day and night.

Making Sense of Supplements

Do you take a multivitamin or dietary supplement? If so, you are not alone. In 2016, 71 percent of adults (more than 170 million) did, especially those ages 55 and older. A well-balanced, healthy diet may provide the full complement of necessary vitamins, minerals and other nutrients your body needs. When your diet falls short, supplements can fill the void. Join us to learn the benefits of supplements, and when you should and should not be taking them.
