The Interventional Radiology Suite at WellStar Windy Hill Hospital is designed with our UFE patients in mind. More than 1,000 UFE procedures have been performed at WellStar Windy Hill Hospital the past several years, with exceptional results.Windy Hill Hospital is easily accessible with free parking as well as free Wi-Fi. Most patients (99%) go home the same day as their UFE procedure with at least 90% success. UFE also is provided at WellStar Cobb, WellStar Douglas and WellStar Kennestone Hospitals.What are Uterine Fibroids?Uterine fibroids are benign (non-cancerous) tumors of the uterus, which affect 1 of every 3 women between 30-50 years of age. Heavy menstrual bleeding, pain in the pelvic region and pressure on the bladder or bowel are the most common symptoms of uterine fibroids. Typically if the symptoms are present, they need to be treated.What is Uterine Fibroid Embolization?Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE) is a non-surgical option for treating uterine fibroids. UFE is a less invasive treatment than conventional surgery to remove fibroid tumors (myomectomy) or surgery to remove the uterus (hysterectomy).How does UFE work?UFE is a minimally invasive procedure that blocks the blood supply to the fibroids. By blocking the blood flow, the fibroids are starved of the blood they need to thrive. The results lead to fibroid shrinkage and in most cases symptoms are relieved.
