How do I sign up for WellStar diabetes classes?

  • Get an order from your doctor for diabetes education. You do not need an order for the pre-diabetes class if you are not filing for insurance.
  • Call 770-956-STAR (7827) to get class schedules, times and dates.

How much does it cost?

  • Your insurance plan may or may not consider diabetes classes a covered service. Please contact your company's benefits department or your insurance provider.
  • If diabetes classes are not covered by your insurance, you may contact Diabetes Services at 770 793-7828 for information regarding payment options.

When and where are the classes held?

  • Diabetes Services makes every effort to accommodate your schedule by offering the classes at times convenient for you. The weekend and evening classes do fill up quickly, so register early at 770 956-STAR (7827)
  • Classes are held at the WellStar Diabetes Education Center, which is located behind Kennestone Hospital in McClaren Mill Office Park, 531 Roselane Street, Suite 100, Marietta, GA.

What if I'm pregnant?
Recommendations for blood glucose control and meal planning change with pregnancy. A gestational diabetes class addresses the special needs of pregnancy.

What if I have special needs?
WellStar offers individual classes for people with:

  • Vision impairment
  • Hearing impairment
  • Cognitive limitations
  • Physical limitations

Translation is available for non-English speaking people.

Will these classes tell me what to eat?
Because meal planning is such an important part of controlling diabetes, at least half of each program (except injectable medications) is devoted to healthy eating. Each participant will receive an individualized meal plan prepared by a registered dietitian.
