Dr. Patel obtained his undergraduate degree at Emory University and received his medical degree from Mercer University School of Medicine. He completed an internship in internal medicine at the University of Maryland-affiliated Franklin Square Hospital and residency in anesthesiology at Emory University. Dr. Patel completed his fellowship in interventional pain management at the University of California, San Diego. He is board certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology Pain Management and by the American Board of Anesthesiology. Prior to joining Comprehensive Pain Management, Dr. Patel served as an assistant clinical professor of anesthesiology at the University of California. While there, he focused on general and obstetric anesthesiology and perioperative pain management. He was also actively involved in resident and medical student education and lectured on epidural/spinal analgesia and opioid pharmacology. Dr. Patel has expertise in a variety of minimally invasive therapies for the treatment of next and lower back pain, including epidural steroid injection, selective nerve root injection, radiofrequency ablation, percutaneous disc decompression, spinal cord stimulation, sympathetic/ganglion blockade and vertebroplasty/kyphoplasty for osteoporotic compression fractures. He also has extensive experience with intrathecal therapy for the treatment of pain secondary to cancer.
