Dr. Helms received his bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology. He also received his master’s degree in aeronautics and astronautics from Stanford University in Calif.
Dr. Helms later completed his residency at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, N.M. and completed a fellowship in thoracic oncology at the University of California, San Francisco. Prior to joining WellStar, Dr. Helms served as a cardiothoracic surgeon at Marshfield Clinic in Wisconsin. Dr. Helms is board certified in thoracic surgery.
