The Specialty Center
The Specialty Center at WellStar Windy Hill Hospital plays a vital role in the patient’s healthcare continuum by providing an advanced clinical and rehabilitation program for the medically complex patient who requires an average 25-day hospitalization in an acute care setting. Our patients are typically admitted from acute-care hospitals and frequently have been in an intensive care setting prior to transfer.
The Specialty Center is a 50-bed long-term acute care hospital providing clinical and rehabilitative programs for medically complex patients including:
LTAC Rehabilitation
- Trauma with functional limitation
- Progressive central nervous system
- Traumatic brain injuries
- Orthopedic conditions
- Amputation
- Spinal cord injury
- Cardiac disease or surgery with active co-morbidity and functional limitation
Clinical / Medical Care
- Ventilator management and weaning
- Tracheotomy
- Ongoing treatment for respiratory and/or cardiac failure
- Pulmonary rehabilitation
- Specialized wound care
- IV antibiotic therapy
- Dysphasia management
- Traumatic brain injury
- Total parenteral nutrition (TPN) as sole nutritional source
- Physical, occupational and speech therapy
- Multi-system failure, malnutrition, CVA, diabetes and neurological disorders
