“About two years ago, my husband, Hutch, had a heart attack. The emergency room staff at WellStar Kennestone took such good care of him!” said Ruth Hutchinson.
Afterwards, Ruth would go with Hutch to see his cardiologist for checkups, which made her wonder whether she, too, should have her heart checked. This past February, a WellStar ad promoting heart screenings caught Ruth’s eye and she jumped at the opportunity. Her scan
at WellStar Cobb Hospital led to a heart catheterization and the discovery that she had a 95 percent blockage in one artery and an 85 percent blockage in another. Ruth needed cardiac surgery.
Dr. Richard Myung performed the surgery, and Ruth said,
“Everyone was so attentive. I also have diabetes, so the nurses watched me closely.
They took very good care of me.”
After five weeks, she headed back to her part-time job at the bank. This grandmother of five also took up walking; Ruth and Hutch walk together, a mile every morning.
“I’m so thankful I called about the heart screening. I probably would have had a
heart attack, but I was able to get my heart taken care of before it happened,” said Ruth.
“We’ve lived in Marietta for 32 years and I’m glad WellStar is here for us."
