Piedmont WellStar HealthPlans recently announced a new Medicare Advantage offering for seniors in the Atlanta area, called Piedmont WellStar Medicare Choice.
Available as of Oct. 1 to Medicare-eligible individuals over 65, Piedmont WellStar Medicare Choice is an HMO designed to give seniors access to the same high quality healthcare at a lower cost than traditional fee-for-service Medicare. It is a partnership between two of Atlanta’s largest health systems – Piedmont Healthcare and WellStar - who came together earlier this year in a joint venture to tackle the rising costs of healthcare for the local community.
“We are offering seniors more coordinated care where the doctors are making the healthcare decisions, not the insurance companies,” said Ronnie Brownsworth, M.D., CEO of Piedmont WellStar Health Plans. “We also are able to keep costs low for our plan members and save them money on their healthcare, which was important to us because we know that many seniors are on a fixed income.”
The U.S. government contracts with private insurance companies to offer Medicare Advantage plans. Some of the advantages that Piedmont WellStar Medicare Choice plan members can expect are:
- A new patient experience, focused on better support of the relationship between patients and doctors
- Tools to help seniors stay healthy and active
- A coordinated, personal approach for seniors who may be managing a health condition
In addition to offering Medicare Advantage, the company began selling commercial group coverage on Oct. 1. For more information, visit pwplans.org.
