WellStar’s Congregational Health ministry serves as a bridge between our healthcare system and faith communities, offering help with lifestyle changes, personal habits, attitudes, faith and well-being.
Coordinated by a registered nurse with specialized knowledge and experience, WellStar's program assists congregations of all faiths to develop a volunteer nurse ministry. There is no cost to participating congregations.
The Congregational Nurse does not diagnose or treat ailments, but can recommend further referral to the healthcare system, along with providing prayer, counseling and compassion.
Programs include heart health, breast cancer awareness, CPR instruction, nursery worker training and senior citizen programs among others.
Each congregation defines and directs its own health ministry. Currently, over 80 faith communities operate congregational nurse programs in partnership with WellStar Health System.
